    Goodwill find: Tartan Waistcoat

Folks, I found an incredible find at Goodwill today, a tartan waistcoat in Cameron of Erracht tartan. Anyway, it was $3.27 + tax. Yes it's wool, made in the UK (Burlington Arcade - H. P. Scott Ltd. - London W1). Before Burlington, it reads 56/57 on the tag. It's too small for me and I'm not crazy about tartan waistcoats, but it was rather nice and I new the true value of the item is much greater than $3.27.

The buttons appear to be gold and have a fox head on them. The back of the buttons say made in England.

Congrats you may be able to open up the back, add another panel so it will be large enough for you to wear.

That crossed my mind, believe me it did. I think I'm going to keep it as is and use it as a loaner garment for some of the folks who have joined the club I started almost a year ago. Some of the members don't have kilts, and a few of the folks would fit in to this and at least they would be wearing a rather nice tartan garment.

I was actually looking for another tweed coat to modify or a tweed waistcoat to add to the collection. I've been known to wear a waistcoat only, without a jacket. It's a nice idea for Florida, being rather very humid most of the time. I have always felt it adds a little nicer appearance without overdoing it at times. Plus I'm not to fond of the costume looking swordsman vests. I'd rather wear a modern waistcoat or something from the 19th century. Say Civil War era..

Awesome find! Some very nice items can be had at Goodwill, thrift stores, and garage sales.

Cool find. I got two genuine Harris tweed suit coats from the local thrift shop for $ 3.25 each. Both are in my exact size. I now have a great look to wear over a pair of dress trousers to those pesky #@*&% business meetings. The big boss was not thrilled when I showed up in an Argyle, vest and kilt kit at the last meeting.
