    Re: Got some new goodies!

Tobus I get told I need to smile all the time as well. My eleventh grade english teacher used to tell me I had an old world look about me as I am very stoic and stone faced. I am quite a happy man but people who do not understand or don't care to get to know me think I am a grump or actually mean based on my look.

Tobus, I have to say that the overall outfit is stunning. The only place to find such details is generally from a bespoke tailor, so I know you're happy with it. But the little details you added really make it top nothch: the watch chain, the spats, etc.Vvery nice and original without being garish or silly.

I love all of the above!!! However, my tie-knot below is not a Windsor, it's a four-in-hand. Though I do prefer a Windsor knot with a spread, or English collar, sometimes I opt for whatever comes to mind initially.

    Cheers,

What a wonderful EBay find. The jacket and waistcoat are quite nice looking. Someone spoke about the possibility of removing the pocket flaps on the waistcoat, but for me they definately add something and should stay intact. I've been wanting a tweed combination like the one you are sporting for quite some time now, and this certainly renews my "need" to get one!

I have a strict rule against smiling in photos. If you look at portraits and photos from the old days, no one smiled. Their look was either stern or neutral. Smiling for a photo is something that you really only see in photos from the last couple of decades, and it really annoys me. Nothing looks worse than a fake "cheese" smile. I don't mind smiling in a photo if it's a candid shot where I was smiling already, but I absolutely refuse to put on a fake smile for photos. It's just not my style. But just because I seem to be scowling in pretty much every picture I've ever taken, don't confuse that for a dour demeanour! I like to let the emoticons do my smiling for me.

I agree, and it's been a bit of a "Eureka!" thing for me. I was raised NEVER to mix different patterns. I don't know why Americans seem to be so dead-set against it, but it really opens up a lot of depth and complexity to one's outfit. This particular tattersal shirt works well because it's virtually the same size grid pattern as the tweed, which makes for an interesting effect up-close.

And before joining this board, I never would have put a maroon tie together with browns and greens. But in the interest of not being "matchy-matchy", I tried it, and I think it works well.

It's amazing how trying something new can drastically re-shape how one thinks.

What a great look, Tobus! All of the pieces are so well put-together, and the detailing and tailoring is exquisite. The blues and browns go well with your dark hair and beard and the maroon tie gives it individuality.

As for not smiling in photos, that just the Scotsman's 'steely glint in the eye!"

    Very well done, Tobus!
