Harp Badge

Evenin',

I'm after an Irish Harp badge for my Caubeen that has a slide instead of lugs and a pin (so's I can fit a hackle easy), that isn't British Army (i.e. doesn't have a crown surmounting the harp) any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Regards

Hi Radge. Here's a one that I found on ebay that should be the correct size (is is made for your hat, so should support your hackle):

This may be a little small, but looks great:

No bother. I was trying to find a nice, large harp badge for a sporran a few months ago. As you say -it's hard to find one the right size that doesn't have a crown on it.
Also - have you seen the Oglaigh na hEireann badges on ebay? I'm not sure if this is also what you'd be looking for.

Wouldn't those be Irish Defence Forces cap badges?

Yes. I was wondering if Radge was indeed looking for something to represent the Irish Defence Forces, or generally just looking for an Irish harp badge without a crown.
As I said - I don't know if this is what he's ultimately also looking for, as they're hard to find on ebay depending on search terms used. If so I would direct him towards the seller.

Paul -- could you post some of those links perhaps? I collect IDF insignia.

Sure thing! My friend's uncle had a genuinely issued army cap badge from a couple of decades ago, however, he ended up giving it to his cousin who also collects such items.
Here's a few things I can find just now.

A good quality reproduction badge:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Irish-Army-Off...item51905c31c4

Cheaper reproduction:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Irish-Army-Enl...item519015d8c9

Irish UN badge reproduction:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Irish-Army-U-N...item518fd62566

This seller has a lot of patches. I don't think they are millitary issues though:

Check out this seller's GENUINE variety of Oglaigh items:
http://shop.ebay.co.uk/finnyus/m.htm...&_trksid=p4340

A couple of genuine medals:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Irish-Army-Eme...item1c1019a8c8

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Irish-Army-Med...item2c5311f3de

Hope this helps!

The simplest course of action would be to buy a British Army cap badge and carefully remove the crown.
