hose color ideas
I'm planning on attending my submarine reunion next October. I'm planning on wearing my Polaris Military Tartan Kilt, a PC or Kilkenny coat and vest. Both of the coats are black bareathea. The Polaris tartan hopefully shows up at the bottom of this message. Basically it is a Black Watch tartan with additional blue and yellow stripes to symbolize the Blue & Gold crews. I have blue socks that match the blue stripe pretty. I waqs thinking I could go that way and ad yellow garter ties. My second idea is to get yellow hose and go with blue garter ties. I thought of the yellow because the outfit seems it might be a little dark otherwise.
I curious as to your opinions.
Thanks.

I'd say the blue with the yellow ties would work, though I think argyll hose would be really sharp, I'm sure you could get a pair by then.

What color would you suggest for the argyle? I've attached a photo of the outfit. It's not a great pic, but it's the only one I have right now.

I think the blue hose with yellow ties is the better choice. The yellow hose seem too bright while the blue with yellow sets the great tartan off perfectly.
If you can avoid it never get into a fair fight.

Ditto to McMurdo's suggestions. If you can afford the Argyll option, I think they'd be an excellent choice with this tartan.

Well for the Argyll hose I'd talk to NorCalPiper he has done some great work with custom hose for a number of XMarkers his website is:

Argyll hose can be an expensive proposition but the way I see it you've got a year to save up.

In Shakespeare's TWELFTH NIGHT, the villain Malvolio is tricked into wearing yellow stockings... http://www.kshosiery.co.uk/products/...an-tartan.html I do not know anything about this company,( KENNETH SHORT ) but they seem to offer the lowest price for tartan hose. Somewhere I saw another company offering two or three colorways that would match most tartans, or at least complement them...

There is also a seller on eBay, RAB socks, ( seller name: 6859Andrew ) who offers very nice argyles in a couple of different fabrications, including 100% wool for around 10 pounds. I have bought some, but haven't yet worn them. None of the color combinations seem ideal for your tartan, but others may disagree.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and side with the yellow hose with blue garter ties proposal. It'd also look good with yellow hose and tartan flashes. I always tend to favor bolder choices...
