    Inexpensive Easy Sporran Belt

I was at Target today buying a brown leather belt with a brass Rampant Lion belt buckle I saw the other week ( the pics of the Tartan Hiker, PDCorlis, and others looking dapper with brown belt/sporran combo inspired me).

I was thinking about how the chain on the sporran belt that came with my sporran was wearing on my kilt's front apron (just like Hamish is always saying) and wished I could just buy a thin inexpensive black belt to replace it. Of course men's belts are never that thin. I looked down at my 3 year old daughter who hiding within the belt rack. I realized a girl's belt just might. Two minutes later I found a sturdy 3/4" wide plain black leather belt (a ladies large) over in women's accessories for $12.99. I took it home and punched an extra belt hole in it and voila', a perfect fitting sporran belt.

Unlike my chain belt, the leather one seems to keep the sporran from swishing about. The leather part of the old chain belt was exactly 3/4" wide though much cheaper leather. It may not be an "official" sporran belt but it seems like it works just as well.

ps: A while back someone posted a pic wearing their kilt and the "Protect Your Nuts" squirrel t-shirt...just to let you all know, that shirt is a regular item at Target...I picked up a Snoopy and all of his brothers "Dogs Playing Poker" (we have a beagle, so we have Snoopy stuff all over) t-shirt at Target the other day and the squirrel shirt was right next to it.

It was over in men's wear. It's has a simple brown belt and was $16.99. The Lion is looking backwards over its shoulder rather than forward, I don't know the significance of this.

He was watching his back...in Chicago we're very good at that.

Funny that you should mention this, though...I did find a very plain brown belt with a simple rectagular brass buckle at target a few weeks ago...it's perfect with my Hntng Stwrt USA casual. I'll have to stop tomorrow and look for the lion number.

I just looked on the target website, they have it listed at a "griffen" belt, so I don't think they mean it to be a Rampant Lion.

The belt is 1 1/2" wide. I just stared at the head of the creature and perhaps it is supposed to be an eagle head. Without the aid of a magnifying lens I couldn't say (this probably says more about the quality of my eyesite than the workmanship of the buckle). I thought Griffins were supposed to have eagle's wings as well as an eagle's head? No matter I still like the belt.

The one I got was a different design than either of the one's Colin posted (both of them are pretty cool though). It goes to show that if you keep your eyes open you can find a lot cool things in unexpected places

Well, they both look like the Rampant Lion to me......

Has Target ever been a source of knowledge?
