I have one of L & M's badger sporrans. The eyes are a little wonky, but overall it isn't over-taxidermied.

I also really like the badger sporrrans made by Kate MacPherson. They're made from wonderful European Badger pelts, so they have a much more striking "badge" than the North American variety that L & M uses. See her link, below:

This is a Fox stole that I am having converted into a ful mask sporran.

I have seen many stoles, but have never seen one without the eyes.

These are four pelts that were arranged in a diamond fashion to make a mink collar.

I fall right where Matt and Rocky are: I like the look of a head with some taxidermy done to it but not too much. The open mouth with bared teeth is over the top and looks like it should be mounted on the wall as a trophy, not hanging in front of a guy's crotch. I also think some animals' heads are a bit too large to look right for a sporran.

Every time I see those pictures of the bobcat and coyote sporrans with open mouths, I think to myself that someone needs to one-up those examples by doing a full-mask stag sporran. Complete with eyes, open mouth, and antlers.

Then that person should be one-upped again by someone else who makes a full-mask buffalo sporran!

As some one has mentioned on another thread dealing with full-mask sporrans and something I've always noticed about animals is that one rarely sees one with visible varied color in the iris. Animal eyes generally appear all black. Perhaps that may be my problem with some of these... they look somewhat unrealistic.

But thanks for posting these for reference to other fashion precedence.

I live in the middle of Thetford Forest and see foxes every day. This is what they look like.

Believe me, the eyes of living animals do not look all black.

At one time, glass eyes for taxidermy purposes were extortionately expensive. A viewer would not necessarily look at the tale of a stuffed animal, but would always look at the head and definitely into the eyes. If they weren't right the taxidermist would not have fitted them.

I would like to go back to the comment about one's wife. I know my wife would say this: "You can wear a kilt, but I do not want that sporran starring back at me". I really like the look of the limited taxidermy head, including eyes. However, if that is the only reservation from my wife about wearing a kilt, I can handle that.

I will just wear it when she is not around!

Yeah, definitely right about the foxes. They look creepy in real life anyway. :-) I was checking out taxidermy supplies the eyes specifically, and see what you mean.

I too like the look of the subtly-taxidermied full masks...no beady staring eyes! The teeth...sometimes I like them, sometimes not. Mostly it's about the eyes. I think, if they were very well done, realistic eyes could work. The eyes in those mink stoles look cartoonish to me. The last two full masks posted by Matt both have good looking eyes, IMHO.
