    Kilt hose pattern needed

I tried searching for the people who showed homemade kilt hose, but of course I couldn't find those posts. At first when I showed the kilt hose made by the Finnish relative of a kiltie, my wife said, "Don't ever ask me to do that." Now I happened to mention it again as I saw someone knitting some socks, and she replied, "Get me a pattern for kilt hose and I will try." It must be the wearing of the kilt that changed her mind!

So if any one has any good patterns for knitting kilt hose, either post them or email them to me with an attachment. Remember you can get our email by clicking on our name above the post.

    Thanks,

    DALE.

I am not sure if this thread has your answer as I don't knit.

The following books come to mind.

Folk Socks by Nancy Bush has a pattern for Aran Style kilt hose (and great general sock instructions)

And another book by Nancy, Knitting Vintage Socks, has a pair of "Cycling or Golf Stockings". This pair is sized for a woman, but could be scaled up. Also a pair of "Gentleman's Shooting Stockings", that with a different cuff would look good in a heathered wool for kilt hose - And again, good general sock instructions.

Designs for Knitting Kilt Hose and Knickerbocker Stockings by Lady Veronica Gainford is back in print from Meg (Zimmermann) Swanson at Schoolhouse Press. (This one has limited 'sock' instructions, it's mostly just the patterns for the tops and stitch patterns for the legs.)

Both of these are in print and easily available on Amazon, etc.

And a couple of free patterns

Knitty online (free patterns!!) has Toirneach

"John Anderson (aka the Robert Burns socks)" Found these the other day via Ravelry

    Piper Hose (popcorn top)

Tell her to come hang out here! There are at least a half dozen knitters here.

Ditto. I'm a novice, there are others learning, and some really accomplished knitters. Take her to the "For DIY'ers" forum and just search for "hose" --- should turn up something like this: link to my search results

    thanks for those pointers ThreadBbdr!

    I knitted these using
    folkwear #152 pattern.

I have another pattern that I will make eventually. I looked for it online but I think it is out of print.

edit: OK I found it on this page. It is at the bottom of the page.

Yes I bought the pattern and mostly used the instructions. I knitted in the thin stripe instead of doing an overstitch.

I used a sport weight wool blend yarn.
