    Kilt hose quest

My husband is a big guy and we have trouble finding kilt hose that are either wide enough or have enough give to fit his calves comfortably. Does anyone know where to find "extra-large" kilt hose? I'd love to get him a rainbow of colors to compliment his growing kilt collection.

    TIA!

I'm sure others will chime in but one source is the Scottish Tartans Museum in Franklin NC. The curator, Matt Newsome, is one of our long time members here. Check out the gift shop on their website - http://www.scottishtartans.org

Scroll down the page for the tree trunk version.

    Matt sells excellent quality products.

As a big calved guy myself, I love the Hamilton Dry Goods hose. He has a Kilt hose that is only available in a few colors, but he also has an over the knee sock that works very well with a kilt and comes in several colors. He ALSO carries a cable knit sock in several colors that work very well.

Another sock to consider depending on budget is a Pipers hose. Many vendors carry them and while they are not in the same price range as HDG,they are excellent hose and fit my 19" calves perfectly.

The next step up from there would be the Heritage hose at Freedom kilts. Steve has got a complete spectrum of colors to choose from and they are most excellent!

In addition to the high priced offerings, I have had good luck with this company. I have 19" calves and they fit very well.

    Kilt hose

    Hey Jen D.
I've got a 19'' calf and just received some kilt hose from here http://www.irishkilts.net/view/kilt_...band_hose.html. They have a nice variety of colors and the pipe band hose fit me fine and can expand some if needed. They look pretty good, seem substantial, and are 70% wool. I'd also get some of the larger sized garters from Scottish Tartan Museum. I just got my second set from them and it feels a lot better on the leg than those elastic ones that are out there. The 44'' size is also great for people with calves the size of redwoods as you can vary the tightness by adjusting the wrap. Just tossing my two cents into the fray. Welcome to X Marks!

I will vouch for the Hamilton Dry Goods Cable Knit hose. I also like their lindsey woolsey socks for kilt hose.
