Talking Looking for 5 button vest/waistcoat

    hi folks
i wonder if anyone can help me out,
i recently bought a braemar style kilt jacket in a shade of green perhaps lovat green but im not too sure as most sites ive found have varations of the same colour(the joys of the net for ya).... now im trying to find a waistcoat to go with this jacket but sadly cant afford to pay the £50 plus standard asking price on most sites for a tweed/wool 5 button vests/waistcoats on offer

does anyone know where i can get a good enough vest/waistcoat size 36 or 38 (yup im slinky) for £20($29) or less the plainer the better
i bought one off ebay for £11($16) but sadly it`ll look great for any occasion other than a wedding ,

my friends bride to be states that the main party involved in the wedding e.g ushers/best man and so on have to try stick with the same theme of clothing of which i dont blame her its her big day after being together for 16 years they have kinda done it all backwards so are finally getting hitched this july ive also known her for nearly 20 years she`s almost my adopted sister if you can call her that so i want make sure i look good that night without her frowning on my choice of clothes for years to come

ive been scouring the internet for days now with no joy so i reckon this is the place to ask,
myself being somewhat different from the average person round this way i had to be more individualistic , if i had the money id have just got a tartan waistcoat to match the kilt and that wouldve been that but my other half is none too pleased with my spending a few hundred on a kilt and its accessories so imposed a budget on our spending for any future items (i try tell her its a investment but hey shes irish )

    thanks in advance folks

Consider wearing a charcoal waistcoat and charcoal hose with this jacket. It would make a good combination.

MacNeal is right. There's no law that says your jacket and waistcoat have to match. You might want to consider a deep (not bright) red, a nice yellow, or a dark green-- it all depends on your tartan, and how bold you are!

You know, skauwt, I get most of my suits at Good Will type secondhand stores. I don't know what you all have over there, but a regular waistcoat might work fine if you fold the bottom edge under about an inch or so and safetypin it.

Just a thought if you can't come up with something. Good luck.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

I reckon a light grey herringbone...

Bugger trying to match the green. It'll really bug you if you get it close but not quite right! You'd have to take the jacket with you when trying the waistcoat. I wouldn't even risk ordering off the net having only seen a pic.

Before you judge someone be sure to walk a mile in their kilt.
That way you are at least a mile away and you have their kilt...

    thanks lads ,
i reckon getting a vest/waistcoat that goes with hose may be the right option , cheers for the ebay link and the uniformal link that site has some nice gear in it mind you , i spotted the ebay one the other day but ended up going for the other waistcoat but i reckon at £10 i should buy it i could always sell it again if it wasnt going to work ,
i had thought of going to chairty type shops but sadly most over this way are wise to what things are worth with all those blooming bargain hunter shows and what have ya most 2nd hand shops have folk who know the real value of items and try sell them for not much cheaper than new ,

this is the waistcoat i bought the other day nice colour and a nice fit waistcoat just wont go with the wedding party i guess http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=220374720458

    Hi thanmuwa,

Thanks for the link. I've just bought one in my size. The vendors are the famous (infamous) Gold Brothers, but at £10 you really can't go wrong.

    Regards
