    Lovat Green Kilt Hose

I was thinking of picking up a pair of Lovat green kilt hose. Does anyone have anything negative of positive to say about this colour. I have Mackenzie, Black Watch, and Royal Stewart kilts.

I have them, and they're a tough match. The bottle green are so much easier to work with.

In the USA, the Lovat Green look a little too much like the ones worn by the Girl Scouts... like we don't have enough grief from the "razzers".

If you actually have a sweater or shirts that will match them... you're lucky! I have two pair of Piper Hose in Lovat Green that I STILL haven't worn once.

My inclination would be to go with a grey color if such was available rather than the green. Grey will go with just about anything. Just a thought.

    Colin,

I have found that the bottle green seems to go good with a number of colours.

In my opinion I think it would do the trick with all three of your kilts.

Greens are the hardest colours to "mix and match" (ask your wife/girl friend). Bottle green is quite a strong colour and you would need to be sure of an exact match to your 2 green kilts, but lovat goes well with almost any green tartan and with dark tartans like the Black Watch and MacKenzie help to "lighten up" the overall appearance - I wore lovat hose with my Black Watch and they went very well together. Obviously won't go with your Royal Stewart, however. And if you get them you can ditch the white ones, which should only ever be worn by children and pipe bands. (As you may have gathered from this and other postings, I absolutely detest white hose!!!!)

However, if you're only going to get one pair of hose to wear with all 3 kilts I would suggest oatmeal (beige) might be best - goes with any tartan.

    Robbie,

I thought that I was the only one that hated white hose.

I don't like white socks period.

At a function recently in Edinburgh I was introduced to a QC, whose opening remarks to me were firstly what a pleasure it was to see someone wearing coloured hose with their kilt (lovat green with the new good kilt), and secondly one of the laws he would like to see passed by the Scottish Parliament would be the banning of white hose.

White hose are ok for kids - they look quite cute - but not for adults unless as part of a band uniform. If for some reason you have to wear white, this should be restricted purely to formal occasions and never when wearing your kilt casually/semi-formally.

    Re: Lovat Green Kilt Hose

Colin, the lighter, true Lovat Green color kilt hose doesn't seem to have the fuzzing/shrinking problem that the olive "Lovat green" color hose does. I've had four pairs of the olive color. Three of them started out between size 10 and 12 US and shrank to 5 or 6 US. Great for my mother and my sister, who now have olive green wool socks to wear, but, not good for me. Have to either wash'em by hand, or use the "hand wash" cycle on the washer, then hang'em to dry, if you want them to stay the same size...

WRT the colors, IIRC, the Seaforth Highlanders usually wear the true Lovat Green with their MacKenzie tartan kilts. Usually with red flashes. Looks good, as does the olive green, which I kinda like better, since it's a darker color and looks better with Doc Martens as well as with most hiking boots. The Black Watch should go pretty well, too. With the Royal Stewart, maybe oatmeal, or bottle green... Or, you could also wear black with it...

I have a pair of lovat green kilt hose and think that they go well with any kilt with green in the tartan.

I wear Lovat Green hose with a Gunn tartan, I like it. With McKenzie and Morrison I prefer navy blue.

I have off-white but rarely wear it except with more formal occasions.
