    Military Sweater

Ok, so the cooler weather has finally arrived in my area recently, so I dug out the sweaters/jackets. I've always been a fan of sweaters as opposed to jackets, but I wasn't looking forward to wearing something without pockets; I didn't want to have to bother with a sporran. What to do?
Then I dug out an old navy blue Bundeswehr sweater I had gotten from a German friend. It's dead comfortable, it's warm, that front pocket holds as much as a lot of those cheaper sporrans, and I think it looks nice with a kilt too...

I'll post pics later, when my net isn't creeping along as it is right now. But I'm just throwing the idea out there for people who need pockets, but don't like vests, sports coats and the like.

Sweaters are great in colder weather. i wear my black commando sweater with my black Shadow tartan. Only problem is the height at which I wear my kilt and the length of my wooly pully I have to tuck it in. Supprisingly it looks pretty good though. When you're ready and want to go sporranless yet still carry lotsa stuff check out Freedom Kilts.

    Ok, here's a pic. I know it's a bit large, sorry...
I'd like to get some nice navy hose to go along with the whole outfit. they'd be a lot better than the cream hose in the pic

The sweater does have a pocket in the front. I dunno if it's some special version of the sweater or what. My friend got if from her brother after he did his mandatory military service. Anyone interested in a similar sweater, the German word for sweater is "pulli" or "pullover". I know that's hard to spell/remember. Mine was made my Mil-Tec, apparently.

Neat - I don't think the presence or absence of the pocket changes the usefulness of the sweater in cooler weather. Except in your case, where you don't like the sporran. Me I like my sporran. So I don't miss not having the pocket.

    Thanks for the flic!

Don't get me wrong, a sporran's great too, and a nice rob roy one can hold a lot more than some sweater pocket. But if I wanna go take a walk out in the brisk weather and maybe pick up a few things, I wouldn't want to bother with one. Plus I think the military sweaters can look quite smart.

I've been wearing these sweaters from L. L. Bean for years with my kilt. They're well-made and guaranteed for life. No pockets though.

I have two British military swearers that I wear in colder weather. I purchased mine from The Sportsman's guide.

Mine is OD green. Currently they don't seem to have that one, but several in the link look quite nice.

I picked up a few of these a couple of weeks ago. Good sweaters. I may need to order one or two more.
