Modern Sgian Dubh
I read a few posts on here a while back (please don't ask me to quote anything) about wearing sporrans and sgian dubh's with UK's and other non-traditional kilts and I noticed they received quite a wide range of opinions. Some saying do what you want while others take the more traditional stance. Both are cool and appriciated.
I have a UK and I wear a sporran with it because I think it looks better with than without and now I'm wondering about the sgian dubh. I don't want to go with a traditional one as I don't think it would 'work' for me. I'd like to get your opinions on the following and let me know what you think of it.

I know some people might be offended by this (total lack of tradition and all) but I think it's pretty cool, sort of putting a spin on the 'old ways'.
So, let those opinions fly!

Some Guinness spilt on the barroom floor.
When the pub was closed for the night, a wee brown mouse crawled out of his hole and sat in the pale moonlight.
He lapped the foamy froth from off the floor and back on his haunches he sat,
and all night long you could hear him roar "Bring on the Goddamn cat!"

There are several folks here who carry that very blade.
It's a great contemporary option. Cold Steel made a version called the Coloden a few years ago that had better reviews but they no longer produce it. They can sometimes be found on Ebay.

I think it would look good with a UK, and at least it is a real blade, I say try it out and see if it does indeed "work for you."
"If the Party could thrust its hand into the past and say this or that even, it never happened—that, surely, was more terrifying than mere torture and death."

While I don't wear a sporran with my UKs, I have worn the CS Culloden. My thoughts were modern kilt = modern knife.
Best regards,

Alternative Kilt Knives
The Brave Heart looks like a good modern alternative. For another alternative check out some of Boker's knives. They post pages, so a direct link isn't available: Go to https://www.bokerusa.com/default2.asp , then select Online Shop | Fixed Blades | Arbolito | Corzo III. They have some knives with antler horn handles on the same page.
Here's a picture of the Corzo III:

If you do go for the cold steel one, try locally first http://www.warriorsandwonders.com/in...roducts_id=493 it should save you a few bucks.

If you're into swords or knives I would suggest becoming a member as I am. The guy in there is awesome and very knowledgeable.

I picked up the Brave Heart on Monday for just the reasons you mentioned. I wanted a useable knife with a somewhat traditional style. I won't hesitate to wear it when dressed casually and it IS a quality piece. It was $59.99 at WandW.

I own a Culloden and like it alot. However the sheath is just too wide and bulky to fit in the hose. So unfortunatley it rarely sees daylight now.
