"Monkey's fist" cufflinks

I am not sure if this belongs here, but I assume it does as I wear shirts and cufflinks with my kilts.

I just procured a few sets of "monkey's fist" cufflinks, and I have no idea how to put them on. The ball does not fit through the hole at all. Most people don't even seem to know what these are, and they go by several different names. Here is a picture:



Does anybody here use them? If not, do you know anybody who does? If no again, if you ever see someone wearing a pair, could you please ask them for me?

Short of ripping a wider hole (which I really don't want to do), I cannot think what to do.

Matt, I got a nice dress shirt to go with my Argyll for last NYE. (See my profile.) It came with a pair of cufflinks like the ones you are showing. Plus I have seen them elsewhere. I had no problem getting them through the slit in the cuff, though. Does the knot detach on one side, perhaps?

No, the strings holding the knots together are stretchy, but that doesn't help.

I must be missing something!

Your "French Cuff" or "Rolled Cuff" shirts should have four small "buttonholes" in the cuff. You fold the cuff up in half, align all four holes up and slip one knot through all four holes. This leaves on knot on each outside of the cuff.
If your holes are not large enough for the knot to pass through you can try increasing the size of the holes with the zig-zig stitch on a sewing machine.
Or find a seamstress or tailor in your area.(a good place to look is your local mall where they have those places that will hem trousers. Anyone who knows how to sew a buttonhole can do this very simple job in about ten minutes.

Also, don't make the holes too big. With this kind of cufflink, the end should JUST fit through the hole. If the hole is too big, the cufflink will tend to pull out.
