Glen, I would say that you're a 7 1/2 and maybe even a 7 5/8. Very sharp looking balmoral though. I'm not much of a hat person either.

Unfortunately my Clan Badge has not shown up as yet, but when it does I'll be ready.
I ordered a 7 1/4" Balmoral as this is the size of my other hats, I've found it to be a bit tight fitting this may be due to the fact that as I said I'm not much of a hat person. Once the X-Marks Clan Badge arrives I will of course get pictures of it and most likely wear the X-Marks Tartan Kilt as well.
It is as far as I can tell a very well made Balmoral and if I do need to have another I will order from Glengarry Hats again, you just need a wee bit of patience but it is well worth it in the end. Here is a hastily taken self portrait: |
Maybe it is just the photo but I could swear that Balmoral is Royal Blue rather than Navy. I like the Royal better anyway----more dashing. You look good and will only look better when your badge arrives.
I am a hat person and laways have been, more so now that the top of me head is getting mighty thin and shiny.

Ah yes right you are Royal Blue it is. I may order a 7 1/2" as this one seems a tad small, I'm already talking about trading this to another xmarker with a wee small heed.

McMurdo,
I bought a balmoral at the recent Chicago Highland Games for the reason you go t yours, to be able to put my new XMarks badge on, now if it would just hury up and arrive. I got mine from the Celtic Croft booth, and also found that I had to go up a size from my normal hat size. It's been a while (since scouting as a youth really) that I have worn anything resembling a beret, so perhapse I am just not used to the fit, but even the size up is a bit snug. That being said I assume that the wool will stretch the needed little bit to give a comfortable, yet snug fit to avoid loosing the cap everytime I turn my head.
And yes, I do know that the balmoral is not a beret before you folks write back
