    My First Dirk

Well I am making my first dirk, used a damaged SA FNFal bayonet, antler and some old kitchen utensil parts. I just stuck them together for the pic, I am not finished with the fit and shaping yet. The blade really needs work!

How thick is the blade? If it is thicker you can add some nice jimping along the back of the blade. You can also file in a nice false edge along the back if that fits your sense of aesthetics... then use increasingly fine grades of sandpaper to smooth everything out. I have even seen blades that have been etched to darken the appearance, which actually seems to add a bit of increased protection with a bit of periodic oiling.

That's pretty cool. Will like to see the final pics. O'Neille
