    My New Doublet

Not sure if this is the right place to post this (mods please move if need be). Here is my new Doublet made by XMTS's own "Mac Ghille Sheathanaich"... What do you think?

I really like that doublet! The shiny facing under the buttons is a nice detail that I haven't seen before. Is the jacket itself black or dark grey? The light might be playing tricks on my eyes...

Also, what can you tell us about your tie? I don't recognize that style...

Some people suggest that a belt not be worn with a waistcoat, but somehow the proportions of your combo is working to my eye. That being said, it might look a little less busy around the middle without it... or you could make it functional by using it for its traditional function: hang a dirk on it

Sorry, scotchmaster, but I don't like it at all.

It seems to me to be a cross between scottish and german. Not my cup of tea at all.

Maybe I'm too much of a traditionalist.

If YOU like then wear it and to hell with what other people think.

I think it's a very nice doublet, you wear it very well. I especially like the details on the front and the stand up collar. I don't see anything wrong with the belt as the waistcoat is cut so high. I think the belt actualy tops up the attire.

I'm not sure what about it seems "German" to BCAC. It's a Sherrifmuir doublet, which is a fairly traditional style of Highland attire. One normally seems them in black barathea or velvet, but there is no reason not to have one made up in other colors (as scotchmaster here has done). I think it looks rather nice! I, personally, probably wouldn't have chosen the facing under the buttons, but I also withhold judgment not having seen it in person.

I had a Sheriffmuir doublet made for myself in grey Harris tweed. I think it can be interesting to play around with a "formal" style doublet made up in a less formal fabric. It can seem to limit the occasions one has to wear it, but whenever you do it will be noticed!

I've seen that particular style of neck treatment (can't really call it a "tie") offered on another web site, and I have to say I don't really like it. However, it seems to work well with that outfit, so kudos!

Goodness knows there have never been any German/Scottish cross-overs before...
