I was interested in exactly how the pins work myself. I can't imagine their not attaching to the tang, but they're awfully close to the edge. I wonder if they aren't fastened to the edge of the tang.

Overall, that is a very nice piece. I can see nothing that is not perfect in any of the work. Very smooth and seamless.

Just because the tang is not visible (as it is with scale tangs), DOES NOT necessarily mean that it isn't full tang.

There is something pure and dreadful about such simple elegance. That knife looks like a slow, solo fiddle sounds.

So I got a response from my knifemaker, and here's what he said:

"This one is a hidden tang knife. The handle is made up of two pieces of wood and the tang goes within 3/4 of an inch of the end. And the pins are just for show mostly but they do help hold the handle together. Both pieces of wood are mortised on the inside to accept the tang. And the handle is epoxied on."

So the pins are just for looks...
