| | | No Sgian Dubh in Mexico
Found this warning on a U.S. Consulate site
"If you carry a knife on your person in Mexico, even a pocketknife . . . - You may be arrested and charged with possession of a deadly weapon;
- You may spend weeks in jail waiting for trial, and tens of thousands of dollars in attorney’s fees, court costs, and fines;
- If convicted, you may be sentenced to up to five years in a Mexican prison.
Claiming not to know about the law will not get you leniency from a police officer or the judicial system. Leave your firearms, ammunition, and knives at home. Don’t bring them into Mexico"
That's enough even to scare me off from a "sgian don't."
Probably gonna be too hot for kilt hose anyhow....but never dreamed the Mexican laws were so strict.

Yes, Mexico has extremely tight weapons laws. Their police and courts are notoriously corrupt to boot, so don't do anything that would present any risk of running afoul of their laws.
Despite the weapons laws, it is a very dangerous place (some areas more so than others, of course). I would pay very close attention to any other US Consulate warnings on areas to avoid due to drug violence, kidnappings, murders, etc.

I was arrested on similar charges in Italy, in my teens, for carrying a Swiss Army Knife in my pocket. Fortunately, diplomats were able to get me out of the country, but... not something to be played with.

Ciudad Juarez had like 195 in one month. I'd keep the Sgian Dubh and myself at home!

Fortunately, Quintana Roo isn't a border state...unless you count the border with Belize'

well, you didn't say you were going to the Eastern Yucatan! Thats were they keep Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and Cozumel. The tourist areas there are the main income, and are pretty secure, lots of police and private security around.
Funny about the knife thing, when we were in Cozumel I was wearing jeans because we went horseback riding, and I clipped a folder in my pocket just like every other day!
