"Old Sporran" on eBay, yikes, 1700s?
So you like to braid . . .

It does look a little bit old, but I'm calling shenanigans of some sort. Never seen something like that, before...
I'll go out on a limb and say it's not a sporran. The form just isn't right.
Puts me in mind of Cthulhu, honestly.

To me it looks like a 70s nightmare thats been under someones porch for the last 30 years.

those were pretty much my thoughts as well, looked definately more 1970's.
But reading the description it sounds plausabel and there are/were undoubtably an unlimited number of one-offs. Considering a sporrans rather simple function it is/was certainly open to artistic variation.
