That's a reasonable reaction, I must say. I've stopped in H&M mostly when I'm accompanying my daughter...who is an eighteen year old woman and H&M is pretty much right up her alley. When I have ventured into the mens' department I'm usually out of my element and probably the oldest person in the store. Lots of those twenty-something, skinny guys (who might be wearing eye makeup...I can't really tell) trying to find that "special something" that will mark them as someone with style and affirm their unique identity...riiiiiight.....
But that's where those guys are
supposed to be, isn't it? They are at the trendy stage of their lives and that's where the goods they need are (see also: The Kinks "Dedicated Follower Of Fashion"...still one of my favorite tunes). But I'll look anywhere if I think that I might find something that I like and I have no problems going into any shop that may have it. I saw the jackets in the window and figured they were worth a look (and did I get a couple of looks from the young trendies who were shopping there...what's this old guy doing in here). But all humor aside, the jacket fits and looks good and (sacrilege!) the p*nts fit like the ones that I had back in the sixties instead of the usual stuff that I find that make me feel like I'm wearing my dad's p*nts.
I'm going out to start shoveling snow right now and will try to get a photo later but I guess I'd say that you never know where you're going to find something that you like or need so always try to suck it up and dive into these "boutiques" if that's what it takes. I mean, face it, if you wear a kilt, you have to have a pretty thick hide anyway, so why would
any shop give you the willies?
Best
