Evening ladies and gents, I have recently found myself getting annoyed with my favourite Bonnet whilst wearing it and I have come to realise it is because the crown part is too large for my tastes as it hangs well over my right eye. This being the case I thought I would re-Jock it and see how it feels before I consider buying another bonnet.

Because I don’t have my own stream I used this cleverly positioned bucket

Notice the water has been coloured by having my bonnet in it all night.

I took it out wrung it out and stuck it on my head to shape


Wasn’t too happy with what I had so I stuck it back in the bucket of water again and went to bed.


Now having soaked it again all day while I slept I wrung the bonnet out again and carefully applied to my head


Being fairly happy with what I’ve got (I.E. I can see to the right when it’s on) I hung it up to dry while I m at work.

I’m going out on Saturday so I'll wear my newly re-jocked bonnet and see how it feels. This is what I’m going for I find my beret more comfortable to wear for because it doesn’t get in the way when I’m trying to see but my Bonnet is just too big for my tastes.
I think I will soon be having a quiet word with our Redshanks about the crown size of his Robert Mackie Balmorals and if they can make them to about the same size as my Beret or even if I can send him down my bonnet and see if I can end up with a quality Balmoral in the same sort of colour only with a smaller crown. And because I would like a place to put a cap badge too


That said when all else fails I have this which I’ve been wearing allot recently because of my dissatisfaction with my other hat.

A good Jockin' never hurt a bit. I Jock'd mine last weekend and it wears like I've had it for years. And, Redshanks got it to me in record time. "I couldn't be bothered" to post pictures, but maybe I'll have a chance this weekend.

My new bespoke bonnet was made with the crown quite a bit smaller than the standard. I am sure Chris(Redshanks) can arrange that for you. Paula is the lady to ask for! I think you chaps need to remember the wool can only shrink by so much and all the "Jocking" in the world will not get it to shrink one bit more. I think your bonnet looks just fine, by the way and I think that if you did not pull the bonnet so severely down and to the right(not quite so parade ground) you will solve your vision problem.

Im definatly going to get in contact with Chris in the forseable future to ask about his bonnet sizes. As to having it pulled to the right so much if i dont theres too much material over the left side of the head which im not too fond of as it looks a bit silly.
I'll snap a few pics tonight before I leave and put the pics up when I can.

Jordan just try this and see how you go. Instead of having the right side pulled DOWN so severely so that it is trying to touch your RIGHT Cheek. Yes?--- Yes.

You are quite correct in wanting the surplus cloth moved from the LEFT side ,by the way.

Try pulling the RIGHT side DOWN---- BUT a bit more OUT. That should still keep the left side correct --but the BOTTOM RIGHT side should then be lifted out of your eye-line. A bit less like you beret and the military look, but it might do?

Failing that, the Chris and Paula option is your best bet. Remember that the balmoral is civilian wear and the ironed, starched, two sizes too small, severe modern military look is not really necessary.

Jock I have tried your advie but unfortunatly it looks like the squint flying saucer again which I just dont like
