    Really cool belt buckle

Well I think it's cool anyway. I've been looking for an oval design and this one really does it for me. The good people at the Rennaissance store emailed me back promply answering my questions about the buckle and as to what mythic creature is illustrated on it's face. They said it's a Gryphon but I'm not so sure. To me it looks more like a dragon which would account for the teeth, jaggy things on it's head and the 4 positions (earth air fire and water). I don't really mind either way. Both creatures have excellent mythologies but what you guys think - gryphon, dragon or other?

Irish and Scottish mythology don't really have too many dragons until the Welsh and English brought them to a more prominent role in British Isles mythology. That being said, it could very well be a dragon seeing as how it is a modern piece.

Whatever it is, it is very beautiful! Far better than the "stamped standard" that everybody has:

They eyes on the four heads make me think of Pacific-Northwest art, masks or totems. Just the way that eye pulls back so far. The head looks very avian, except for the aforementioned teeth. Either way, I would agree that it's not only a very nice piece, but much more unique than you usually see, and once it's on your belt, the creatures can be anything you want them to be

Gryphon, dragon, whatever. It reminds me of a dog, or maybe a wolf. A very unique piece. Where did you say you got it? I like it.

A lot of people think the to are the same thing. I guess you'll have to look close at it's feet to see if they're paws. Sounds cool and maybe a little Jungian.

    Maybe it's a jabberwocky.

By the nose, as well as the top of the head I'd say it's a Gryphon, however I could be wrong.

BTW if anyone's interested it is item DFD31 (took me a LOT of searching to come up with that, thought I'd save others the time). $75 or so for the 2.5-inch belt version.
