Recent aquisition
While browsing through an antique market on the weekend I discovered a sporran in a box along with various bric-a-brac. The sporran is a dress L&M 500, medium gray fur (not soft enough for seal - possibly doctored-up cow), red leather highlight under the cantle, 3 tassels, with chain strap, all in excellent condition. The good news is I got this item for $25 CDN. I don't think the gentleman selling this item really knew what he had. I suspect he saw this as a "furry purse".
I'll post a pic once I figure out how to attach it to a post.

Seal fur isn't real soft, it is kind of "bristle- ly" much like deer due to hollow hair for warmth.
Can't wait to see it, good score

Aye, all the seal that I've ever seen was beautiful, but very coarse. Perhaps the infamous "baby seal" fur is soft, but I really don't know. At any rate, I'll be interested to see the picture.

Me, too. I'll pay you $25 USD for it.

Sure doesn't look like seal from that picture...But a nice sporran for the price, regardless.

It's a good looking sporran, don't get me wrong...
But in that picture, the fur looks kind of... funny. Are we sure it's not synthetic?

It's got a bit of shine to the fur doesn't it? I'm not sure what it is either but I'd be interested to find out. I'll echo that it looks like you got a good deal on that one.
I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. - Fred Bear

I have e-mailed L&M and asked if they can provide any info on it.
I'll let you know what I discover.

Cool. Either way, you got a pretty sweet deal.
