    Scalloped Hose Tops

OK, so having twice this week seen in vintage photos kilt hose with scalloped tops, I have to ask whether anyone knows much about them. Glen just posted one such photo in the vintage thread....

...but I can't just now put my fingers on the other.

They are not for me, but I think they are interesting and look good on the men who wore them.

    Regards,
    Rex.

p.s. Does anyone name their child Prunella anymore?

I've heard the term "castellated", but I don't know if that applies to every shape/style like that. I'm sure someone who knows much more about them will come along, but yes, I have been noticing them a lot these past few days in the wonderful vintage threads (and before from other threads and photos).

They're wonderful!! I absolutely adore them

    Cuilinn has them available here

    http://www.cuillinn.com/kilts.html

Here is what it says on the site

Formal Hose for evening-wear is patterned, either in red/white dice, tartan, or check patterns of red/green, red/black, green/white, or other combinations. As stated above, white hose are NOT correct for formal wear. Formal hose can have either the normal turnover or can be castellated or vandyked with a wrap or tie garter as shown far right above - very traditional and very much in the spirit of the Highland Gentleman.
Scottish Lion has them as well

This is what they say regarding Castellated Hose

Custom-made in a traditional red and white pattern. These hose feature a crenellated band at the top to simulate the battlements of a castle and are held up by ribbon tied around the leg. Finished inside and out, no loose ends. 100% wool.

I have a pair of castellated hose, which are easy enough to find, but I've never seen the zig-zag pattern. I think this pattern is cool and different.
