Sgian Dubh + drinking = great idea?

Now that I have your attention, I'm looking for a sgian dubh bottle opener. I've read that some people here have one, and I think it's a great idea! I don't want a horn-handled bottle opener, I want a sgian dubh opener. Any suggestion?

A Skean Dhu is a knife, not a bottle opener: and thought one might not wish to wear a knife, lets try to keep that bit of our heritage, and link to the traditions of highland dress intact.

Having said that, it is not uncommon to see chaps carrying their pipe [smoking] in their socks alongside their Skean Dhu.

Too in the days before combat kit for the military, the hose was a handy place to carry a spoon for eating.

So be happy to carry your bottle opener there, but have the common decency not to call it a Skean Dhu: for that would be like calling your ladies handbag a sporran-and as accurate.

When opening a nice bottle, and short of a bottle opener, there is ALWAYS a good and handy kitchen counter or deck top edge to "pop" the top off!

just be very careful when using this method! Last time I tried this, it didn't work quite perfect. The bottle cap did indeed pop off, but about an inch worth of the bottle came off with it!

I make these if you're interested - I usually wear one instead of a bladed Sgian Dubh if I'm out at anything but a very formal occasion and it often comes in very useful

here's an example of a custom made one in Culloden Bog Oak with Sterling Silver fittings, engraved Pictish Wolves and a Sheffield made drop-forged opener:

This is what some folks have called a SGIAN- BREW so not to confuse the purpose or the history, and heritage. This name should satisfy James.
