A Shirt Problem

Well hello everyone. Ive been meaning to ask this for a while.

I am looking for a good style of kilt-shirt. There are just a few problems. Mainly with me.

I enjoy short sleeves, and generally like to have it untucked.

The Problem stems not so much from the short sleeve part, but from the tucked in part. When I wear the normal button up shirt I have, and its tucked into my kilt, everything looks fine. When its unbuttoned, the belt is covered and and generally makes me look like Im wearing a onesie with a kilted bottom.

I have experimented with folding the shirt in various jacket ways ( like a PC ) to see how it looks, but because I don’t know own a sewing machine, or rather, not enough shirts to experiment with the tailoring myself, I haven’t made anything.

So, does anyone know of any type of affordable kilt shirt that could be worn untucked, preferably with short sleeves, or baring that, have any ideas on a way to tailor a normal button up shirt in to some sort of frankenshirt to test out my idea?

Freedom kilts make a kilt shirt with long tails. I wouldn't recommend it worn untucked but should help eliminate the shirt pulling out.

I believe that Colin and Glen wear rugby shirts not tucked in. Rugby shirts work well with kilts for a casual look

You could have several inches cut off the tail of your kilt shirt and then hem it. Any alteration shop can do that for you. Won't it cover your belt, though?

I tuck my Rugby shirts in, in fact I would say the only thin that should go untucked would be a sweater (jumper)

Hmmm...I tuck mine in as well.

I know Colin doesn't but do we really want to hold Colin up as a role model?

Being real long in the torso, and real short in the legs, has always made for untucked shirts while wearing trousers. However I wear my kilts to the "normal" waist, and have eliminated the problem of untucked shirts. The only thing that I wear that is not tucked in is a jumper, waistcoat, or jacket. For a special effect, I was wearing my band shirt outside the kilt and held in place by the kilt belt. Used the effect to hide a back support that worked in conjunction with the Bass Drum carrier on my back for parades. No strange bulge showing in the front, to keep the look uniform with my fellow marchers.
