NOTE, Amer. sized & European sized, jackets fit DRASTICALLY different. ( Amer. seem to be sized for larger waist to chest etc, than Euro.)

This is a good point. For some manufacturers, I am easily fit "off the rack"; for others, I couldn't be a stranger size. Geographical location tends to have an effect in my experience, as I can usually shop for items made of designed in European markets off the rack much easier than the US counterparts. Even if I'm buying stateside, if it's imported from across the water, I tend to be able to shop off the rack.
Having said that, I try on everything... Twice!
Well, unless there's a great sale on, then I keep my local tailor in business.
