    Sock it To Me!

My big concern this Winter is with Kilt Hose. I'm down to three wearable pairs and two good pair. I just bought some over the calf athletic socks. I'm looking at some wool over the calf socks, but as they generally don't let you try on socks, I was wondering.

My shoe size is 13, and I've got thick calves, will a size 10-13 over the calf sock fit me most likely or not?

    Thanks,
    Elijah

Hi Adam, I don't know US shoe sizes so i cannot comment. I will say that I found an Outdoor Shop that sells thick wool blend socks for hiking, they are plenty long enough and much cheaper than kilt hose.

    shop around!

I know there are cheaper alternatives. The problem for a guy with size 13 shoes and thick calves is knowing what will fit, because they're not too keen on letting you try socks before you buy them.

I'd have thought it best to ask in the shop selling them. Surely the Sales Staff will know the products they stock! Just my take on this one

    Hey Elijah,

I've had good luck with Carhardt sox...they're built for construction and mining types...have some with brown trim, and some with black trim...good for informal stuff.

I also bought a couple pair of kilt sox (wool & Nylon blend) from Clansman Knitwear www.scottishclansman.com , size large 11-13 and they are HUGE on me...in fact, trying to figure out how to shrink them a bit.

    Hope that helps.

For casual, baseball and soccer socks would work, they come in all sizes and colors, and they are available at most sporting goods stores. Wool ski socks that are over the knee look more traditional, but solid colors are hard to find. Rohner, a swiss company has some really nice ones, and they come in several sizes; check your local ski shops.

If you don't want to try them on in the store, then buy them and try them at home. If they don't fit, just return them. They can't refuse the return.

I also have the same problem... 13 & big calves!

I read this thread and ordered a pair from Clansmen Knitwear.. They were loose on my feet and way too tight on my calf..

I would go for the soccer socks but I'm putting this all together for my wedding. I want it to look right.

    Please help guys!

    hose...

If you're willing to pay a wee bit more, there is a great company in Northumberland, England, that makes great socks that are well worth the price:

    www.almostunwearoutable.com

I own two pairs of her kilt hose, and they are almost indestructable!

    Cheers,

    Todd
