    A special gift

I meant to post about this at Christmas but I completely forgot. So I am going to rectify it now.

One of the wonderful Christmas presents I got was from my sister Eli. A pair of vintage tweed brushes with the letter A on them. (Which is for Arlen, if it wasn't obvious.)

I really like them and they work fantastic for cleaning my kilts and jackets of an evening.
I'd highly recommend a set to anyone.

What an excellent use for the brushes, Arlen.

You refer to them as "vintage" which amuses me because I used to sell brushes like that in London's Mayfair. They are (or were) actually 'military' style hair brushes - usually sold in pairs with solid ivory, tortoiseshell, silver or exotic (satinwood, mahogany, ironwood, etc) wooden backs. Our customers would often have them engraved with initials or crests as well.

The backs would last forever and, occasionally, someone would bring a pair in to have them re-bristled after they had already been passed down through several generations.

I cannot see from your photos, but I assume the backs are actually wooden with a metal, possibly silver, covering. The pair being nicely presented in a genuine hide travel case.

Very nice - and thanks for bringing back so many memories.

    Take care,
    Ham.

I had a brush set similar to that once but misplaced it long ago!
