It is difficult to tell where the sporran is hanging in relation to you anatomy.I wear mine so they hang about 1/2" - 1 1/2" above the "V" of my groin.( the bottom of the leather portion. Depending on the design & weight of the sporran, they rest comfortably in my pelvic girdle. ( but I am slender & as yet my belly is ok. ( probably will have to make some changes as time goes on ( @ 66 I am starting to add inches.)in that region.

I tighten my sporran strap until it's comfortable to wear, i.e. not slamming against my body when I walk. I've noticed that it usually leaves 3-4 finger widths between the bottom of my belt buckle and the top of my sporran (which is exactly where I've read it should be worn). A sporran worn way low looks a bit sloppy, IMO.
