Sporran Cantles and Waistplate Buckles
I have a StillWater, nickel plated, waistplate style dress buckle. Would the nickel plated type buckle match up well with a chromed cantle type dress sporran as far as their shininess?
I have been thinking about The Celtic Croft's Chromed Cantle Economy Sporran on this page.
Mostly because of McMurdo's thread "Chromed Cantle Economy Sporran Review."
They're probably both shinier than I would like them to be, but that's what I have to work with right now.
I did order the sporran,; it goes well with the buckle; the review is in my thread, Celtic Croft's Chromed Cantle Economy Sporran.
I'm pleased with how it all worked out.

Yes, nickel and chrome will be very similar and really are probably used interchangeably.

Thanks cavscout . I have noticed that a lot of the nicer sporrans have chromed cantles, as well.
There's so many choices that it's hard to sort through.
I've also been looking at their Fur Economy Sporrans, but they don't have cantles.
* Correction: I was sent a PM, and the written discription does not have cantles listed. However, the pictures do have cantles on the rabbit sporran.

I wouldn't worry if they match or not as you would very rarely if ever wear them together. If wearing the sporran properly you will find that the cantle will bang up with the buckle and scratch or be uncomfortable to wear.
The sporran with cantke is meant as a more formal dress wear and thus you would be wearing a waistcoat as a result not require a belt to be worn.

I agree with Canuck when he mentions the banging. I often wear my dress sporran with my good buckle and they clash when sitting. Fortunately they haven't scratched yet... but I'm guess they will over time. I don't mind a "lived-in" look so the odd scratch won't be that bad... but if it gets worse it will be a concern considering the money each cost!

Um, I noticed there was a post deleted from this thread. Hope everything is all right with this topic...
Anyway, I put a correction note on the rabbit fur sporran post; turns out they do have cantles.
Thanks for your replies.

Ted,
Glen deleted a duplicate post. Just an example of your friendly neighborhood moderators at work.

By the by,
I have an earlier version of the Celtic Crofts economy chrome cantled dress sporran and wore it with success with a Gaelic Themes round pewter buckle. I would polish the buckle a bit each time I wore them together, but even though they were different metals it seemed to work out fine.
The Celtic Croft seems to have upgraded that sporran though, as it is much nicer looking than their previous model (which I still have, like, and use)
Cheers
Jamie

Thank you, Panache, on both posts.
I'm doing my best to follow advice from
M. A. C. Newsome's photo essay post that fully explains the formal and casual sporran differences in Ancienne Alliance's thread "Furr sporran = full-dress sporran ?" Also, Matthew A. C. Newsome's blog "Black v. Brown."
Glad to hear that the sporran works so well. These seem to be good options seeing as how I already have the belt/buckle, and it might not feel quite right to aim for a higher priced sporran to go with it.
(Not so sure when I will be able to upgrade to a new buckle and sporran like the items Matt has at the Scottish Tartans Museum's gift shop.)
Those rabbit sporrans are very, very tempting now that I know they have cantles... Kind of have a thing for bunny sporrans.
