Sporran Makers Lend Me Your Ear

I've been totally spoiled by the ballistic nylon sporran with zippers sold by Stillwater Kilts.

The zippers are just so much easier for me to cope with. The nylon is starting to show some wear.

I'm guessing the design isn't patented (?) rather just common sense.

Is there perhaps a sporran maker out there who would make that same design in leather? I know leather and zippers mix well on jackets, hoping they do on sporrans too.

I think a leather sporran (brown, black) of that design and size would sell well....okay, minimum it would sell one brown and black to me.

What am I missing...is it possible?

Had been hoping that Stillwater would do one in brown nylon, but its not happening that I know of unless I've missed something. That got me to thinking why not leather???

A leather version would be cool. I can make one in black or brown 1000 den Cordura nylon that will wear a lot longer than your old one, but the cost puts you close to getting a leather one. They would run $55.00 ea inc/shipping. I offer as an option. I can think of a couple of leather working members who could turn out a great leather version. good luck.

Haven't done any photos yet, but I've made one (a copy) in Cordura myself already as a more casual sporran. As you say making it in leather would be no difficulty. I could make you one in Black without a problem, Brown upholstery leather I don't have. Salmon pink? for some reason I have plenty of it!

Price I don't know off the cuff(maybe $50) and unfortunately time is a problem right now as I have 3 work days in front of me, 3 at my Inlaws delivering dogs and cat, the one day at home for packing etc and we fly to London on Tuesday (to Edinburgh by Train on 14/4). So pretty well 8 weeks before I return home and could start it. If you don't find another option please give me a reminder when I return.

This isn't a business for me, just a hobby and a way of spending some time in the workshop. I love seeing the finished product.

Ron, if you are requesting someone make a copy of my copyrighted sporran design, that is not cool. Please look under the photo on the SWK web store for the copyright declaration. Our copyright applies to the design, not the material used.

I am aware that SWK has been an ongoing source of disappointment to you, you may be interested to know we have at least 3 new versions of our cargo sporran that will be released this year. I would have gladly sold you one of our prototype leather ones had you only asked politely.

There was no malice - hence the (?) about the patent which would also include other stuff like copyrights.

Sadly, I don't recall the leather prototypes, but if I had probably would have passed back then because I wasn't yet ADDICTED to your design.

Glad to hear more are coming out. Since you hold the rights to the design I hope you have found, or do find, a leather maker...its just my olde geezer opinion, but I think you'd sell a bunch...as mentioned, a brown and a black to me. And if a brown nylon emerges one of those too.

Again, no malice intended....just an olde geezer trying to get what he wants - legally...

So, stand down other folks, this one's up to Jerry.

Ron, I appreciate your understanding. We are also working a brown heavy canvas version with leather trim.

hahahaha, yeah I know. But I never liked the look of a sporran on a female, and being female.....
Anyways, I just love the inovation. All the different materials being used, different closures....so familiar, but all so modern and fresh at the same time.

...well, you could just try wearing the sporran off to the side on your hip...then you've got all the benefits of a sporran with, perhaps, a sort of female variation on the look...I can understand that dead center sporran placement could be considered a male thing for two or three reasons.
