    Sporran strap question.

I bought a sporran on eBay a little while back, as some of you may recall. A picture of it appears below.

It arrived yesterday, complete with a strap. The sporran is great, but the strap lacks that little loop to tuck the excess strap into, leaving it loose and flopping around.

I emailed the guy about it, and he said that he has never seen a military sporran that had such a loop on the strap. What is your experience with such things? I'm a bit annoyed by this, and undecided about whether to leave neutral or positive feedback.

I don't have a picture of the strap, though I could shoot one.

Its crude, but I've handled that situation with a rubber band that I've colored black with a Sharpie marker. I know the keepers on my sporran straps are very small and snug. Maybe the leatherworker just didn't want to deal with it.

I don't really think it's that big a deal. The strap I made doesn't have a keeper loop either and it hasn't been any problem. If you feel you really need one it isn't a big project to make one. If the quality of his product is as you expected overall I'd leave positive feedback.

Check Tandy Leather and The Leather Factory, I believe one or both of those will have pre-fab belt keepers in assorted sizes. You will need to order some leather dye since the keeper will be natural.

An alternative, similar to Ron's is to just use a black hair band. They are a little stronger than plain rubber bands and they tend to last longer.

I have the Same Sporran and the same Strap. It doesn't really bother me that the strap is flopping behind my back.

I have 2 other straps, and none of them has the loop either.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I guess I can fix the strap, but I really shouldn't have to. Between my annoyance over that, and the guy's dismissive attitude, I doubt he'll be getting positive feedback. He did not cheat me, though, so he won't be getting negative feedback, either.

If I do that, the remaining strap will stick out behind me, like a tail, albeit a short one.

Not the look I'm after.

Hmmm... perhaps instead of a rubber band, then, a nice piece of ribbon hot-glued to the inside of the belt to form a loop along the outside? They make leather-look and suede ribbons.

Best bet for appearance is visit a leather shop. They'll likely have a small scrap that matches the strap pretty well and you can just make a loop from that. Easy to do and will look more much nicer than ribbon or rubber bands.
