    Sporran's provenance

I picked up a sporran today at a swap meet and would like some help in identifying it. At first blush it appears to my uninformed eye to be military issue, but I'm not sure about that.

    <a href="http://s650.photobucket.com/albums/uu222/RB51/?action=view&current=Sporran015.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu222/RB51/Sporran015.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

On the back is stamped what appears to be a serial number - S5429, and the date 1962

    <a href="http://s650.photobucket.com/albums/uu222/RB51/?action=view&current=Sporran018.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i650.photobucket.com/albums/uu222/RB51/Sporran018.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

and on the inside of the flap are the letters I S with 623 underneath, both in a circle about the size of a nickel with what looks like a star missing a few arms in the middle.

Hopefully the pictures turn out OK...any help will be appreciated. Thanks

    How about this:

Sorry, no idea about the sporran.

Just to let you know, use the IMG code rather than HTML on photobucket for your pics to appear

Your sporran appears to be the same type that the Canadian and Scottish military issued. However, I have no clue what the numbers and symbols represent.

Indeed. I did think at first that it resembled a military issue (WWII) Australian one that I own, but thought I'd leave it to more experienced eyes than mine to provide an answer

Your sporran appears to be identical to the one I purchased from What Price Glory for about $10.00 it was listed as being from the Canadian Highland regiments. That said, I have no idea about the markings, as mine does not have them. From the following Website:Military SporranBrown Leather Day Sporran
New production of standard British and Canadian issue day sporran for wear with kilt. Includes leather belt, choice of 42 or 48 length (specify)

I have the same WPG sporran - I would concur that it's a military day sporran.

I'd agree. That's what I used to wear in the reserves years ago.
