substantial gray kilt hose
I bought a pair of "budget" cream colored kilt hose off of e-bay and as usual, got what I paid for. They don't have the volume of material and robustness of construction to really look good. OK, so now I have a pair of wool blend socks that I can do the "pull down" thing over my boots with.
I'd like a pair of **substantial** gray kilt hose socks. Anybody got any leads? I'm a pretty big guy with a sturdy set of gams, so there has to be some material in these things to look good.

I have a pair from Lochcarron. I lot of stores carry this brand.
Carry on as if you knew what you were doing, and you were in you're right state of mind.

kilt hose...
Alan,
I would suggest the Almost Unwearoutable Sock Company in Northumberland, England:
www.almostunwearoutable.com
Yes, you do pay top dollar for them, especially with the exchange rate -- but they are the BEST kilt hose I have ever owned, save my hand-knitted tartan hose from the Tartan Thistle in Washington State. I own two pairs of Almost Unwearoutable hose, a cream coloured pair with a cable-knit pattern, and a pair of oatmeal coloured with green squares on the cuff, and I never wear any of old, less expensive hose anymore. The oatmeal & green pair are pictured my gallery.
I highly recommend them, and they fit my grandmother's definition of frugal to a tee: you pay top dollar for a quality item that will last a long time (so you don't have to spend any more money!)
Cheers,
Todd

To my wife they're socks. Do you have any idea of the damage she'd do to my body if I spent that much on a pair of socks?
Everything in excess! To enjoy the flavor of life take big bites. Moderation is for monks.

I agree!
I'm very happy with the cream/off-white pair I purchased for them.. By the way, you have to ask them for cream/off-white. They don't addvertise that color for some reason. Most of all, THEY FIT! Something about having 21 inch calfs is a bit of a problem..
