Is there an alternative to the Jabot for a doublet

Inspired by the pictures of McMurdo in full fig I mentioned my aspirations towards a doublet to my friend Bugpiper. He has a doublet that might fit me.

It was made for a piper but he has reneged on the deal. It is not completely conventional in style but actually I like the sound of its features.

Its made of black barathea. Double breasted with 4 Inverness skirts, gauntlet cuffs and a high collar with a 2 to 3 inch gap.

My question is: I'm not a big fan of the lace Jabot and cuffs. Is there an alternative?

With the gauntlet cuff I'd be happy having ordinary dress French cuffs but what about the neck?

I've considered a more old fashion square bow tie or silk scarf tied in a bow or tied as a cravat and tucked into the doublet. I also considered lawyers bands, but they look rather ecclesiastical and that is look I would not wish to pursue. Over to you.

Just picturing it in my head, I think the cravat/ascot route would look pretty cool. Granted, this is in my head, where things tend to work out much better than in real life.

    Good luck!

There was a previous thread about wearing a Montrose doublet without the jabot and cuffs.

I mentioned perhaps opening the doublet into lapels and this picture was posted.

Presumably the doublet you are looking at would be similar, but with Inverness flaps and gauntlet cuffs.

Don't think I'd go down the open collar route like that - I don't know if the jacket will allow that anyway as I have not seen it but I think it shows that you can wear them with bow ties. I think I'd go for one with less bow.

You could wear a stock, or what TartanWeb calls a "Highland Cravat."

Of course it all depends on the Doublet. For a Montrose for example I think the the Jabot is needed, on mine there is a dart that if not covered by the jabot would be unsightly. So when you do get it pictures would help.

IMHO, there are 2 options for the style collar you mentioned.
    1. A silk STOCK (black & white are most common, but colors are also worn.

    2. A "NECK CLOTH" ( also called Cravats) These a GREAT white, Black, colors Plus The different looks you can achieve, are "Fantastic

I wear both regularly, both "uniform & Formal. With my jackets (one "standing collar" & one "open collar (with a military style "standing collar" Vest.) .
