Think I can get away with this?

I recently dug out an old knife I had as a kid. It's only slightly larger than my sgian dhub...I wonder how it will fit in the top of my hose!

Hey if I can get away with a rubber chicken sporran...

You could but it looks as though it may be a little heavy. Perhaps a different sheath that straps to the calf (if this is the case) and nix the strap around the pommel.

Truth be told there is no kilt police but if they flash their badges and ask, you didn't hear from me and you haven't seen me either. Capice?

It may, or may not, be too heavy. If the overall length of the knife is about 6.5-6.75 inches it will possibly work. To try it, first make a sheath out of a piece of thin cardboard, like the kind that comes with a new shirt. Then, with not more than half the hilt above the top of your sock, walk around for an hour or so, go up and down some stairs, etc. If it is too heavy, you have two choices: buy a proper sgian dubh, or shave some of the horn off the back of the hilt and hope it will work.

Unless you really like tinkering (and don't mind potentially buggering up your sheath knife) I'd suggest you save the pennies and by a decent sgian dubh. It's your call.

It might very well look a bit odd. Only one way to truly tell. Give it a go and see how it looks.

You might just have to bury it a little deeper than a sgian dubh. If the weight is not an issue and you use it about as often as the average sgian dubh, then you'll rarely have cause for it to worry you.

Give it a try, but I suspect that you may find it too bulky.
