It's my understanding that matching tartan hose is preferred for formal wear, even to solid white. I personally wear tartan hose for formal occasions, but as a piper, I am forced into wearing the white for some persformances.

from Edinburgh. I am a dyed in the wool tartan hose wearer for formal events so go ahead if you've got them. Leave the white ones for the amateurs who rent their kilts.

The hose look great Phil! Though I do so hate buckle brogues. I can rarely bring myself to wear them.
