    Traditional Garter Ties

I really like the traditional garter ties that Matt sells through the Scottish Tartans Museum.

When they arrive the ends seem to be controlled by static though...all the treads seem askew. Maybe its supposed to be like that or maybe it from all the shipping hither and yon. But I like them straighter.

They don't seem to stay well smoothing them by hand. So I've dipped the ends of mine in water then hung them to dry straightening the end threads. That seems to helps some.

Wondering if anyone else has come up with some tricks for shaping them? Have thought of hair spray or butch wax...both seem extreme.

    Thanks,

    Ron

Hi Ron, Never thought much about the fringes. I wonder if you could dampen a cloth and place the fringes in the fold and steam them with an iron?

I really like mine and I need to order another pair to go with my Isle of Man kilt Matt is making. What color do you think would go with this tartan?

A bunch depending on what color kilt hose you wear....thinking yellow garter ties to pick up the yellow in the kilt. Would go with most colors of kilt hose that match the tartan or go neutral to the tartan...

Would it work to run a drier sheet over it?

Never tried anything with mine Ron, but then I sort of like them to be wild. I've even found people compliment the traditional garters, no one ever compliments my elastic flashes.

David I think the Ancient Blue might work for your tartan, or maybe the loden or lovat green.

I tried a soft brush on the tassles when mine were new, but that didn't help very much. They seem to relax and straighten somewhat with use. I also try to lay them flat during storage.

I was going to suggest the same thing. I used to use a Bounce sheet on my hair, when I still had some, and it worked wonders.

Ask Matt to choose. He has them right in front of him right? I asked him to decide on mine with my ancient MacLachlan, I concur.

what about a little shot of Static Guard? Would that be ok or would it damage them?
