    Wee sporran-chain tweak...

Not exactly a stroke of genius, and I'm sure I'm not the first to come up with this idea, but:

I've replaced the chain-section of my sporran belt with a double thickness of thick leather thong/shoelace.

A 2-minute no-budget fix for those worrying about the chain damaging the kilt.
Looks better for casual use too.

I've not heard of this one before, M, so you might be the first! Be careful that the thong is not too narrow. You need a nice flat surface to the leather to prevent destructive wear on the kilt.

Having said that, anything to do away with chains on day sporrans is great and fine by me. For 'Newbees': chains belong on Dress Sporrans, not Day Sporrans where a solid through strap - no D-ring nonesense - is perfect, and kinder to your kilt. Believe me; I have seen horrendous damage to kilts, through 'chain rub', across the years.

Good work, Moose. I've considered braiding leather thongs to replace the chain portion on one of my straps. Never got around to it because I bought a brown sporran that came with a strap and I stole the black shoulder strap from one of my wife's old purses to use with my black day sporran.

If necessity is the mother of invention, lack of necessity must be the mother of procrastination.
