What do you think of this kilt pin?

It's a lovely pin but not uncommon, not that that is a bad thing. As Downunder says, have a shufftie at the Show us your kilt pins thread for some interesting variations on a theme. I think you can get away with just about anything as a kilt pin, so long as you like it.

In answer to the concerns of having the pin catch on something and tear a hole, I have read (I think on here) of a possible solution. Figure out where you want to have your pin reside on the apron (there's no 'rules' on "it has to be exactly three inches in and no more than two inches up, and it MUST be in line with the vertical stripes"). Once position is determined, figure out where the 'pin back' (don't know the correct term for the sharp pointy bit) will enter and exit, and make two small 'buttonholes', and stitch them into the apron. Pass the pin back through the 'buttonholes'. This should help keep the kilt pin's weight from pulling on the fabric, and should help prevent a tear if it should get caught on something.

Perhaps a LOR related kilt pin.
The elf cloaks did have those leaf like pins as closures, if I remember correctly. I'm sure there are several other items in there that could be used.
