What Sporran should I get?

I'm going to buy a sporran but I just don't know which one! I've narrowed my selection down to two; A Freelander Sporran or a Clan Crested sporran from scotweb(http://www.scotweb.co.uk/sr_morri_mmf1_semiclan).

I cant decide!!...they both look good...please help me!

Those two sporrans are very different in function and use. Will you be wearing this as mainly a daily wear sporran or only for formal occasions? You will eventually end up buying a casual AND a formal sporran it's just a matter of deciding which one to get first

For daily, casual wear I'd opt for the Freelander or take a look at Thorfinn sporrans also. They are both the Rob Roy style sporran. Both sporrans are great quality and made by forum members. For the maximum function, I'd go with this style sporran. Tons of room, built to your specs. Thorfinn offers a lot of built in options like pockets, key ring holders, interchangeable flaps so you can mix leather colors and even tartan. You won't go wrong with either.

The second sporran is a bit too formal for casual wear (not that it can't be worn casually it will just look a bit dressy). And the big issue to me on the clan badge one is that it is not that roomy for carrying cell phone, wallet, keys, .... You may be able to shove them all in but when you want something you will likely have to unload the whole sporran to get to it. For formal occasions though I usually strip down my wallet so I'm only carrying about 1/4 of everything I usually carry in a rob roy.

I absolutely love my Freelander Sporran, they really are top shelf when it comes to craftsmanship, however as cavscout has said you need to figure out when and where you will be wearing it. Example I do Scottish country Dancing and will not wear my freelander to class or an event, so really ask yourself which will fit you best and go from there, they are both good choices but they both have their place.

At the risk of sounding redundant, I would have to ask what will be your main use for the sporran? Casual, business, or more for dress? Answer that question, and you will have your sporran. Look forward to seeing which one you choose.

I have to agree with the previous coments - what will be the main use of your sporran? I have a Rob Roy style sporran that I wear almost all the time - but I've only worn my dress sporran a handful of times in comparison.

Can't go wrong with a Rob Roy style though - it'll hold just about everything you need with ease. And it'll look better for more dressier occasions than will the semi-dress for more casual occasions.

I'll second the motion of the Rob Roy style. I have a plain black leather sporran (not Rob Roy) that I wear nearly all the time. As soon as I can scrape the necessary cash together, I intend to get a Rob Roy style. I wear my all fur one with the cantle only on special dress occasions, maybe 6 or 8 times per year, as opposed to the plain one.

As for a cell phone, I am so deaf that I can't hear the ringer, so I wear it in a holder clipped to the under apron. Set on vibrate, I can feel it go off. (Then it goes into speaker mode, no private conversations for me these days. )

I'm thinking of the sporran fore daily use mainly. I want to be able to keep my cell phone, keys and my wallet in it so I think I'll go for a Freelander It looks great and is also practical.....mayby I'll get the clan crested one later

One of the thing I like about the Thorfinn is there is a keyholder, and a slot to hold the cellphone - the inside stays more organized.

I think you've made a GREAT choice. My Freelander is absolutely top-shelf. It simply oozes quality. You've already made your mind up it seems, but here's a shot of mine anyway.
