Where to wear the Glengarry??

Is there a proper level of dress when the Glengarry should be worn or is it completely up to the wearer?

Seriously though, I've not heard of a rule for Glengarries or Balmorals in regards to level of formality in dress. I personally wouldn't wear my Glengarry with a T-Shirt*, but I would with a polo.

Glengarries and Balmorals are completely interchangeable. (Assuming they are both made of the same material. And one's not tie-dyed or something)

But I agree with the outside comment, I see to many people wearing covers inside. But that's just my $.02.

Thanks for the advice again. I still retain most of my Military Bearing and do not wear a cover indoors. Thanks to my dear Drill Sargeant at Ft Dix NJ. I was going to wear a ghillie shirt with the kilt to the games and, as you may or may not have seen in my pics, I am severely follically challenged. I shave the ol' brain protector every other day and was trying to figure what I could wear to keep the sunburn to a minimum. I guess that sunscreen 50 may be the only option. Can you wear a glengarry with a ghillie shirt?

Like Panache I have worn a Glengarry with a polo and last year wore one with a ghille shirt in the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games Parade of Clans. Clan MacRae came first so we obviously did not get marked down for my choice of shirt with the Glengarry.

To remove a hat is submission and is driven the tradition of the person in their context within local custom but not exclusively by the rules of local custom. I would strongly refuse any request to remove my glengarry (when I'm wearing one).

I do not say these are correct, whatever that means. But it is how they are worn in practice.

I've always thought Glengarries are more military in nature. If you're wearing a "uniform" such as with a pipe band or honor guard they fit, otherwise a Balmoral is more appropriate. As to wearing indoors, if it's a public area like a mall or store I wear my Balmoral, if its a sacred space like a church or memorial or a private space like a home I take it off.
