X Marks Kilt Pin vs. TSA....?

So I'm making my Maui plans for next month. Endevoring to just take carry on luggage at my little brother's experienced suggestion...and the weather's good etc.

Obviously going to fly kilted. So thought it best to wear the X Marks kilt pin since it doesn't have a long pin, just the two short posts like for a name badge.

It seems to me the pins are short enough not to freak out TSA. But when I make assumptions like that I'm often rudely surprised by reality.

Does anyone have any experience flying wearing the X Marks kilt pin?

Why not post your kilt pin ahead to your location in Hawaii? Saves a lot of hassle.

I've travelled with mine about ten times. I just take it off and put it in my carry-on. You need to divest of metal anyway. Never been a problem.

Thanks O'Neille...planned to do that, just wondered what the xray guys would think of those two short sharp points....extreme for sure...but these days....won't be long until belts and straps go because they "could" be used for garrots and whip-like weapons...

You could tie your shoelaces together as an impromptu bola or just bludgeon someone with your steel-toed Docs.

I have flown countless times in uniform and the rank insignia and ribbon bars have the same pointy thingies on them. Granted, somebody in military uniform might get better treatment than "that weird guy in the kilt" but I don't see it being a problem.

I've flown several times recently and had no trouble with kilt pins like the X-Marks with the short studs. I do leave the claymore pins at home.

I travel with a nylon guide pouch that I use for a sporran when I need to carry lots of stuff. It has an several inner pockets, and I attach my pins to the inside of the pouch just behind the over flap. That way they pass through the x-ray attached to something and are easily inspected by the TSA agent.
