    Yet another surprise

My mother came over today with a little surprise present she had just bought for me. I'll let let the pictures explain.

    Very nice.

I carry a pocket watch as well, and have attached a larger ring to the d-ring on my Freelander to clip my keys and watch chain to. but that definitely looks more convenient than pulling open the sporran just to check the time.

That's a thoughtful present that is. Well done mum.
I've often considered picking up a fob but have never endevoured to. I'm a little malaligned to time but seeing that Derek, I may just drop a hint for my next birthday...

    Very nice.

I used to carry a pocketwatch, but the winding mechanism broke. I should take it to a watchsmith, but I just haven't gotten around to it. I'm about to go to places where I need my watch to tell me the altitude and temperature.

    Derek,

As a watch collector (among a collector of other things), I think that your Mother is such a thoughtful and wonderful person. Congratulations on the present.

I showed the pictures to my wife with a little hint, hint, nudge, nudge. She says you don't even have a pocket watch. So then I had to tell her about the family heirloom watch that's been around for over 125 years and is in my drawer. It was given to me by my grandfather but when I showed it to my grandmother she said that the initials on the back were her Uncle's. Since my grandparents were both born at the turn of the century I figure Uncle Mike must be at least 25 years older than that. I just don't have a convenient way to carry it except when I get dressed up and use a chain. That very nice little pouch would make it a lot easier. Congratulations - it was a nice thought.

    How about this:

I got it made by a friend, complete with my initials.
The watch is new, but the chain is an heirloom from my greatgrandfather, who got it in 1916 in exchange for a golden one he gave to support Germanys war efforts.

I've been a geologist too long.

I looked at the first picture and was convinced it was a Brunton pocket transit (i.e., a geologists compass) but thought it looked a little small. Anyway, very nice looking watch! Looks great with the outfit.
