Bad Press at the World Cup
COMCAST.NET In an incident involving a drunken Briton, Munich police said a Scottish resident was arrested Saturday at a fan festival in the city's Olympic Park after raising his kilt and exposing himself to passers-by _ including a police officer.
The man was taken to a police cell, where he tried to bite an officer's arm, a police statement said. He was released from detention after sobering up.

Yeah, he's making a bad impression of soccer fans everywhere...
.. the kilt had concealed a blaster strapped to one thigh and a knife to the other. He was aware of the present gentle customs against personal weapons, but he felt naked without them. Such customs were nonsense anyhow, foolishment from old women - there was no such thing as "dangerous weapons," only dangerous people.

It's difficult to know how to respond to such ignorant behavior. There is no excuse. He doesn't deserve the privilege of wearing a kilt.

I might have mentioned this before-but last year I was in Prague, and the centre of town was so full of drunken kilted chaps, mooning and in general being really rather disgusting: that I went back to my apartment and changed into trousers so as not to be associated with them.

Another article has the kilt wearer's story:

He claims that it was a case of an unfortunate sitting position. Either way, gotta know better!

But cannot that be because one part of our mind, that which we act with, becomes prejudiced through experience and still we keep another part completly open to observe and judge with?[/COLOR][/I]

Strange behaviour from a country where it's not unusual to find people sunbathing starkers in public parks.

Boy...there's a shock!
Not that they arrested a Scot for misbehaving in or around a football match...just that they only got ONE.
Come on, guys...I've seen guys moon passersby at fishing derbies! (And this was on the Chicago River and he got an entire tour boat full of tourists.)
They're just making a big deal out of it because the guy had a kilt on.
The guy is a victim of anti-kilt discrimination and you are execrating him?
"Hey, Hans...let's bust that Scotsman...he might expose himself!"
...and it's the freakin' World Cup! What in the world do they expect? Organized cheers by neatly dressed, completely sober, well mannered fans?

Doesn't it seem unfair that the German police and the press seem to be picking on one of the relatively few Scots who are in Germany during the World Cup? I might have expected to read something like this if the tartan army were all there supporting a Scotland team. Are there no non-kilted fans of the participating teams whose misbehaviour might be more newsworthy?
