Bhowani Junction
Last night Turner Classic Movies aired the film adaptation of John Masters' Bhowani Junction, starring Stewart Grander and Ava Gardner (be still my beating heart!).
Whilst there were no kilts in the movie, there were pipers, specifically from the 1/13 Frontier Force Battalion (Coke's Rifles) of the Pakistani Army's 7th (Golden Arrow) Division -- you can see the Golden Arrow's formation sign on Granger's tunic.
The author, John Masters, served in the 4th (Prince of Wales Own) Gurkha Rifles. The Gurkhas, as many are aware, have strong links to the Scottish regiments. Masters' autobiographical Bugles and a Tiger is a must-read for any military history buff.
There's a famous quote from Bugles about the kilt -- anyone know it?

I too was watching TCM last night and for quite a bit of the day as it was Ava Gardner day, and enjoyed Bhowani Junction, however I do not know the quote.

Todd, I actually have that book on my shelf next to Northwest Passage but haven't read it! Perhaps after Pillars of the Earth I can get to it and find the quote.

Saw that movie last night, noted the piping, but don't know the quote, either.

Someone did...and it caught my attention as well.

It is a great quote about two things that are easier in a kilt... But certainly not quite family friendly.
