Bloom County
One of the sites I visit daily has the old "Bloom County" comic strip. The strip posted today had Berke Breathed's impression of Prince Charles in a kilt (this is humor, folks - not to be taken seriously):

I am easily moved for sympathy for dogs, far more so than for humans, because dogs do not understand. There is no way to explain that you will return, that the vet will make it all better, that they cannot go shooting today because that is not what today is about. They cannot work out that their misery is finite and will some time end, and so their misery is magnified.

Love the old bloom county comic strips. Use to have all the books and even a collection of the stuffed penguins. My wife and I even named our dog Opus.

Cute strip but it does bring a tinge of sadness, knowing what lay ahead.

For many years Bloom County was an eagerly awaited stop in my morning paper. Who can forget when Steve Dallas broke his back? (and the hiatus when Berkeley broke his)
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

I miss Bloom County. The new strip just isn't the same.

HRH has always struck me as a decent bloke - I've met people who knew him in the Navy. Whereas I was never a fan of St Diana Queen of Hearts etc. I haven't seen this cartoonists work before but he obviously picked up on something.
The 'Eathen in his idleness bows down to wood and stone,
'E don't obey no orders unless they is his own,
He keeps his side arms awful,
And he leaves them all about,
Until up comes the Regiment and kicks the 'Eathen out.

Oh my gosh, I grew up reading the Bloom County comics... I like Bill the cat, and I had a little Opus doll.
Guess that's not exactly the subject though.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Thanks for posting that one Gary, I too was a big fan of Bloom County and do miss it.
