    European countries ban seal products

Trading seal products will be banned in France, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands in September. Other European countries will probably follow. Italy banned the trade in 2005.

Loyola Hearn (Canadian Minister of Fisheries and Oceans) wasn't pleased....to say it mildly.

That's going to affect some sporrans.

When I was looking at the Kiltstore website yesterday I noted that many of them could not be exported to the USA which I guess must already have a similar prohibition.

Yes, the USA definitely has a prohibition on Seal products.

I purchased a sporran from Scotland over the internet in 1999. I was unaware that it was a seal skin sporran (it was part of a package). Anyway, the sporran was shipped to me with no problem. In fact, I didn't even know about the ban until well after I discovered that my sporran was seal skin.
Since then I've wondered why I was sent a banned broduct. Whenever I wear it I always keep my eyes peeled for g-men that might want to jump me and confiscate my illegal sporran!

Great, now I'm hungry for a mooseburger and the only place I know to get one is four hours away.

I wonder if the plan is to ban such trade in totality or whether there is some date clause involved.

Here in the UK trade in old Ivory is permitted (provenance must be proved) whereas trade in new Ivory is banned.

Now you got me getting hungry. Luckily I can just pop over to the freezer for last years hunt...

Unfortunately we are out of whale, but there is usually a whaler or two that stop by to sell meat on their way back from the hunting grounds.

More as a cultural curiosity and follow-up to yummy Moose burgers and trading in old ivory, so please, please, please do not get into a discussion about whaling... Or sealing...

I wonder if you can buy seal in the USA like you can buy Absinthe. Absinthe cannot be bought within the USA, but you can buy it by having your credit card ran in the country of the seller and then have it brought to the USA by private courrier. Can you do the same thing with seal?
