    Smile Facebook

For those of you who are familiar with facebook, I noticed that Texas A&M has a group listing of 15 members under the heading "Real Men Wear Kilts". One member, Erika Schmidt wrote, "yeah, so this is probably the coolest group on Facebook. I went to the Renaissance festival and there were Sooo many guys in kilts....it was glorious."

My son started a Facebook group by the same name, but apparently there is a separate one at A&M. My son is at DBU.

I might look like I'm doing nothing, but at the cellular level I'm really quite busy.

Facebook is sorta like X-Marks except the focus is a lot more general and mostly used by high school and college age students. They post a lot of personal information such as schools attended, hometown, friends, interests and hobbies, clubs, blogs, favorite movies and books, and pics. It is a growing forum among college students.

Looks like you have to be part of certain specific schools in order to register. My college isn't on the list!

When I was in college we had a physical Facebook that all freshmen were in, with whatever photo they'd submitted over the previous summer (usually their high school senior photo). At school we called it the Pig Book, because upperclassmen would look through it to find the pretty girls' info.

We called the physical directory of all freshman with photos the Facebook at Yale and they do the same thing at Harvard. Apparently facebook.com was started by a couple of Harvard students.

At Notre Dame it was called the dogbook, but the concept was the same. I can't remember the number of times that some unknown gal would call one of us in our six-man suite and the reciever-muffled call of "SOMEONE GET A DOGBOOK!" would ring out...

Yeah, progressive chaps, that was us.
